Timothée Chalamet was the guest host for the first Saturday Night Live since Donald Trump was inaugurated as president (again). Chalamet was also the first musical guest as well.
While Chalamet didn’t mention Trump, being both host and musical guest was something he made sure to joke about in his opening monologue on this weekend’s Saturday Night Live.
Chalamet hosted SNL for the third time, but as he pointed out, it was the first with his much-talked-about facial hair or lack thereof. He also brought up his role as Willy Wonka and his most recent work in A Complete Unknown as Bob Dylan.
Chalamet also poked fun at how many times he’s been nominated for Academy Awards – and how he’s lost each time. Clips played of his expressions at previous Oscars ceremonies as they announced the winners.
“Just another lonely night with my Dune popcorn bucket,” Chalamet joked before asking the SNL crowd to allow him to give the speech he’d like to give if he did win an Academy Award.
Chalamet tried to set the mood by having an audience member announce a “winner.” However, even in this fictitious scenario, Chalamet lost to SNL cast member Kenan Thompson.
